Maine Township High School District 207 serves students and families who have arrived in our community from throughout the world. For students who are learning English, Maine 207 offers supports and services to ensure that students learn both high-level academic knowledge and skills as well as develop proficiency in English. Instruction is aligned with the Illinois State Board of Education’s English Language Learning Standards. Progress toward these standards is measured annually by WIDA‘s ACCESS for ELLs assessment of English language proficiency, which assesses students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
In addition to ensuring that Maine 207 students are proficient in English, the benefits of multilingualism for our students are clear in an increasingly inter-connected world. Being able to listen and speak as well as read and write in multiple languages opens up a range of possibilities for students with regards to both careers and for the full pursuit of their personal interests. As a result, Maine 207 students are also able to earn the Illinois Seal of Biliteracy.
