Moving into Hybrid In-Person Models for School

(This email was sent to families on Oct. 5, 2020)

Dear District 207 Families,

As we continue to bring more students into our District 207 High Schools over the coming weeks, we want to take this opportunity to update you on our timeline to move into Hybrid In-person models that will increase opportunities for students to attend more of their classes in person.

Over the next few weeks we will continue to bring more students into the building as we begin operating the A/B Hybrid schedule. Between November 9 and the beginning of second semester on January 5, the progression will be as follows:

  1. Beginning November 9, all students choosing to attend in person will attend in person four days a week with the next week off to allow the other group of students to attend four days.
  2. By January 5, if we are able to operate the first phase of the Hybrid model successfully, we will double the amount of time that students are in attendance, with each student who chooses to attend, attending four days every week in morning and afternoon shifts of the A/B groups.

Note: All groups will attend in half day increments (Special Education and English Language Learners have been operating on specialized schedules since the beginning of school). This is due to the decision to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus by NOT having lunch inside the school buildings. Students who are eating will get a grab-and-go lunch. Virtually all local high schools who are bringing students back on a Hybrid model are using this same strategy based on updated guidance about minimizing the spread of Covid.

This week each building principal will host a parent forum to discuss this plan in more detail. Please tune in to hear directly from your student’s principal to get details from their building. If you are unable to watch the session live, please know they will be recorded.

As always we need your help to make this work. We will make every attempt to continue to keep each building open even if we have some limited positive cases with limited and known contact tracing. Widespread outbreaks and unknown contact tracing would put any of our buildings at risk of closing down until we could safely re-open. Please wear PPE when in public, practice social distancing and proper hygiene, and do not host or attend large social gatherings. If your child or anyone in your family tests positive or is symptomatic, please contact the school nurse to help in assisting you with the next steps. Working together is the best way for us to bring our students back safely to protect them, our staff and all of our families.
